The National Carp Control Plan determines the feasibility of using Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 as a control method for the invasive species.A plan to introduce a virus into Australia's waterways to control carp numbers is being kept under wraps, sparking calls that the Government is not serious about open and transparent consultation.
An ecologist and a fisherman's association have criticised the secrecy, saying the public has a right to know Developed by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation , the plan determines the feasibility of using Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 as a control method for the invasive species. Estuarine Ecologist, Faith Coleman, works in South Australia's Coorong, at the mouth of the Murray River, and has been tracking the controversial plan since its inception."For those of us who have read the 13 background reports that have been released, the science is inconclusive to say the least," Ms Coleman said.
