Nottingham City Council wants to avoid certain areas of Nottingham being "dominated by students" as more than 10,000 new bed spaces are set to be built in the coming years. [Places] like Dunkirk or Lenton for a very long time have been 70% students, that's not healthy for a neighbourhood. That's not to say that students shouldn't be living there, but there should be choices and balance."

Speaking about some of the conditions he had seen in HMOs, Mr Lees said: "I went to a property where there were nine students living there. The lounge had been converted and it simply wasn't suitable for that many. Paul Seddon, the Director of Planning at Nottingham City Council, said: "What we did recognise a few years ago was that we really needed to work together to avoid what we thought could well be a crisis in terms of provision, demand and supply within Nottingham. Other important university cities have had to manage what has become a crisis there.

The other key aims of the new Student Living Strategy include encouraging 'neighbourliness' between students and other Nottingham residents, with both universities having made a joint commitment to invest around £1 million in the prevention and enforcement of anti-social behaviour this year.
