A plane crashed in Riverside County, California Saturday, killing the six people inside.
The crash occurred earlier than 4:15 a.m., as the Riverside County Sheriff's office were called to the scene at that time. All the passengers were declared dead at the scene."Deputies located an aircraft fully engulfed in flames in a field," a statement from the sheriff's office read.
A subsequent investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board is underway, with the board confirming to the Washington Examiner that it will send five investigators that are slated to arrive later Saturday. "Preliminary information indicates the airplane departed from Harry Reid International Airport [in Nevada] en route to French Valley Airport [in California]. The airplane crashed short of French Valley Airport during its second approach around 4:15 a.m. PDT," NTSB told the Washington Examiner.The resulting fire burned about an acre of vegetation according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Within ninety minutes of first responders arriving to the scene, the fire was contained.
NTSB said it expects to file its first report within fifteen days. A full investigation takes anywhere from twelve to twenty-four months to complete.
