The city of Plano has extended an invitation for residents to receive training in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. The offering is the result of the city Emergency Management department’s reactivation of the City of Plano Community Emergency Response Team .
Classes will begin in in January and will take place every Tuesday for eight weeks, the city stated in an email announcement. Professional first responders often rely on CERT-trained individuals during emergencies so the responders can focus on more complex tasks.Have a valid driver’s licensePass a background check with no felony convictionsOn the last day of classes, the triainees will take part in a full-scale disaster drill. This allows the group to apply the CERT training they received.
