Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats hope to give the higher seeded Saskatoon Blades all they can handle in the Western Hockey League playoffs.
“I would say we’re eager for the series,” said Blades head coach Brennan Sonne, whose team is locked into the No. 3 seed in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. “We’re really eager to get back into playoffs. The opponent’s the opponent. We’ll prepare for them. It’s definitely very close. I guess it just adds a little extra juice when it’s Regina.”
With that in mind, Pats head coach and general manager John Paddock was pleased with his team’s performance Sunday against a high-tempo team like the Blades. Bedard scored his 70th goal of the season and added an assist for the Pats in Sunday’s win. Alexander Suzdalev, Tanner Howe and Brayden Barnett also scored for Regina, which led 2-0 after two periods and was 0-for-1 on the power play.
“I hope are close,” he said. “They have had a fantastic year and I’m putting not much stock in a win, by any means. If it happens that we play them, I hope it’s just a good, long series, but they don’t beat themselves. They play a well structured game. A really good team.”
