Playparks in Glasgow’s most deprived areas are in line for makeovers with dozens due for refurbishment.

It is proposed priority will be given to the improvement of play areas and equipment in the poorest neighbourhoods in upcoming years where “deprivation levels” are high.

Parts of the city where more children under 15 live will also be a focus for play park Scottish Government investment, which will total about £5.1 million between 2023 to 2026. SNP councillor Alan Gow told the committee: “I’m delighted to see the scale of investment coming to the city. I strongly support the proposal in the paper to weight the allocation based on the significant SIMD indicator . I think that is absolutely the correct way to go.”report presented to the committee said: “The average cost to refurbish a play area is currently estimated at £100,000.”

The council is in line to receive £1,028,000 in 2023 to 2024, £1,542,000 in 2024 to 2025 and £2,570,000 in 2025 to 2026 for play parks from the Scottish Government. Other funding may also be available from developers.
