Three more provincial capitals have recently fallen to the Taliban, which now controls large swathes of the country. Mr Atmar said he had spoken to Foreign Minister Marise Payne about how best to sustain the Australia-Afghanistan partnership in the wake of the troop withdrawal and suggested he had asked her for other forms of military support.
