Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek said she plans to reject billionaire Clive Palmer’s proposal to build a coal mine near the Great Barrier Reef because it would have an “unacceptable impact” on Australia's natural wonder.
Ms Plibersek announced her intentions on the same day that the federal government passed its climate change bill through the lower house with support of the Greens and teal independents.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022 "Based on the information available to me at this stage, I believe that the project would be likely to have unacceptable impacts to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, and the values of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and National Heritage Place," Ms Plibersek said on Thursday.
Last year the Queensland government deemed the project “not suitable,” saying it presents significant risks to the reef as well as wetlands, fish habitat, waterways and ecosystems which rely on underground water.
