Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he was ‘appalled and shocked’ to learn of Cardinal George Pell’s conviction and his first thoughts were ‘with the victims of child sexual abuse’. Cardinal Pell was found guilty of five counts of historical child sexual assault in December last year.
Pell was taken into police custody on Wednesday, where he will be held until sentencing on March 13. Mr Morrison says the case will have brought up painful memories for victims and their families and ‘my thoughts are with them’. He says ‘to all of you who have been the victims of child sexual abuse, you are not alone, we know it happened and we are here for you’. Image: News Corp Australia
