Prime Minister ScottMorrisonMP says he is confident he will “come to a commonsense arrangement” with Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews over lockdown support payments.
The Victorian Premier announced on Thursday afternoon that the entire state will enter a five-day lockdown at 11:59 tonight as the Delta cluster grows to 18 cases.
But on Thursday he adjusted the required length of lockdown to trigger the payments to one week at which point the Commonwealth would pay $600 a week for those who lost more than 20 hours of work and $375 for employees that lost between eight and 20 hours in arrears. “There needs to be cost sharing for those earlier periods and of course in areas where the Commonwealth has deemed there to be a hotspot.Premier Andrews said on Thursday he expected the two governments to come to an agreement on funding despite the lockdown only lasting five days, given Victoria was only recently subject to stay-at-home orders.
“We make a contribution and we expect the national government supports us just as we would support Victorian businesses and I'll have more to say about that as soon as possible as early as tomorrow."
