Scott Morrison has admitted the government’s current ways of helping Aboriginal communities is flawed and needs to be changed.
“Over decades, our top-down, ‘government knows best’ approach has not delivered the improvements we all need.The PM also said that “despite the best intentions” Closing the Gap has never really been a partnership with Indigenous people.
The report reveals indigenous health and employment continues to be a concern. In 2018, the indigenous child mortality rate was 141 per 100,000 — twice the rate for non-indigenous children, which is 67 per 100,000.In 2018, the indigenous employment rate was 49 per cent compared to 75 per cent for non-indigenous Australians.
