Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia is raising the level of travel advice for Wuhan city due to the outbreak of a new coronavirus in the central Chinese city

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia is raising the level of travel advice for Wuhan due to the outbreak of a new coronavirus in the central Chinese city.

It comes after Queensland Health confirmed a man who returned from central China with a respiratory illness was in isolation at his home and was being tested for the new disease.Chief medical officer Professor Brendan Murphy said the risk remains low. Mr Morrison said Professor Murphy and his state counterparts had “initiated measures to mitigate infections persons entering Australia”.“We are well prepared to respond to this situation and we will continue to monitor and take action where necessary,” the Prime Minister said on Twitter.

People travelling to Wuhan are now being advised to exercise a high degree of caution, while the travel advice for the rest of China has not changed. “If you have travelled to Wuhan and have developed symptoms of respiratory illness, contact your doctor,” the Smart Traveller website said.
