Scott Morrison is expected to call the election any day now after a court challenge to his imposition of candidates in key NSW seats failed.

But there remained a pall of uncertainty last night when Liberal state executive member Matthew Camenzuli, who brought the legal action, gave notice he would appeal the decision to the High Court.Mr Camenzuli, the owner of a construction software business, instructed his lawyers to launch an immediate appeal in the High Court and hoped to secure a preliminary appearance before a judge as early as Wednesday.

The lawsuit challenged a direct intervention by Mr Morrison and his factional sidekick Alex Hawke which bypassed a rank-and-file preselection process and re-endorsed Environment Minister Sussan Ley, Immigration Minister Mr Hawke and backbencher Trent Zimmerman. “The federal constitution confers a broad power of intervention on the federal executive to bypass the divisional constitution,” he said.
