The Prime Minister has expressed his elation about the Matildas skipper being chosen to lead a distinguished cohort of Australian representatives at King Charles III's coronation.

Mr Albanese told reporters in Brisbane on Monday morning he was"very pleased" the Matildas captain would lead a contingent of renowned Australian representatives at the May 6 ceremony.“She will be here in Australia as one of the leading players for the Matildas when it comes to the soccer world cup in just a short period of time.”

In 2022, she was awarded an Order of Australia for her service to football, and in 2018 she was named the Young Australian of the year. The coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday with 2,000 guests from all over the world in attendance.On May 6 and May 7, significant buildings and monuments will illuminate in Royal purple.

Mr Albanese will be travelling to the UK from May 2 to May 6 for the coronation. He will be joined by the Governor-General David Hurley and a number of state governors.
