The foster father is facing charges of giving false or misleading evidence to the NSW Crime Commission, as the court heard new details of the investigation into William's disappearance.

Both foster parents were called to give evidence to the commission in 2021 about the disappearance of William, and both were subsequently charged with lying during the hearing.The commission works alongside police and can hold hearings and supply evidence to courts to facilitate prosecutions. Detective Sergeant Lonergan confirmed police had asked the DPP to consider laying charges against the foster mother of interfering with a corpse and perverting the course of justice.
She was asked "Did you find his body, realise he died and there was no point in calling emergency services?" before answering "No".
