An “emergency exclusion zone” set up in an area of Townsville earlier on Friday has been revoked, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety, police say. The “emergency situation” was declared about 10am in West End, with police boundaries around Francis St, Montgomery St, Gordon St, Douglas St and Chandler St. “Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice,” police said.

One person commented that they “went out this morning, now we can’t go home”. “Does anyone know what’s happening? Have friends in the area that I cannot get in contact with,” another person said. But Queensland Police have since told 7NEWS.com.au the exclusion zone was put in place so officers could safely execute a warrant in the area, and was officially revoked at 2.25pm. A 32-year-old man has been arrested, but is yet to be charged.
