Police say Quinton Nixon, 31, of Akron, was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff on the 500 block of Gridley Avenue, just east of downtown Akron.

The standoff started just before 9 p.m. when police received information that Nixon was at the residence on Gridley Avenue. Nixon was wanted on a murder charge in the shooting death of Toni Westover.

SWAT responded to the residence and police say officers could see Nixon watching them from a window in the home. Nixon reportedly ignored requests to surrender. Officers eventually entered the home and found Nixon in the attic. He was arrested without further incident, police say. An AR-15 rifle and a shotgun were found in the residence, police say.

Nixon was treated at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center for an unspecified minor injury, police say. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
