Police have made a major breakthrough in their search for the body of missing Ballarat mum Samantha Murphy with what appears to be a mobile phone being discovered during a fresh search.

Police renewed their search for the body of the 51-year-old mother of three on Wednesday, with investigators joining specialist units from Victoria Police and the Australian Federal Police in Buninyong. When asked about their find a spokesperson for Victoria Police some"items of interest" had been located.
