A damning report from Victoria's truth telling commission has recommended a transformation of police and child protection systems, to benefit Indigenous Australians.
The inquiry, which has the same powers as a Royal Commission, has also called for a new police oversight body, after the force acknowledged evidence of racism and brutality.
“Truly tragic interactions between our Indigenous peoples and those systems, its important the voice of Indigenous people is heard here,” Governor Gardiner told the commissioners. The report gives 46 recommendations that look directly at self-determination, human rights and cultural rights.
