Authorities today expressed their concern after 319 cases were recorded overnight with 92 of those identified as being from the Canterbury - Bankstown Local Government Area.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the problem wasn't the rules weren't strict enough, but that many people were breaking them. "There is absolutely no way that we can have a police officer outside of every house on every street corner, outside of every shop.Police are focusing their attention on the area with increased police presence expected over the weekend.

A total of 335 penalty infringement notices were issued in the last 24 hours to people breaking COVID-19 rules across Greater Sydney.
