NSW Police are desperately searching for the mother of a newborn baby girl, just hours old, who was found crying and abandoned in a stranger's backyard in Sydney's west.
, naked and crying, on Girra Road in Blacktown just after 2.30pm.
"At this stage we don't know who the mother is and we're really concerned about her and her welfare, her physical and mental wellbeing, as a result of what's happened yesterday," he told reporters on Saturday. The newborn was taken to Blacktown Hospital on Friday afternoon, after she was treated by paramedics at the scene. It is not known where the child was born, but police confirmed it was not at a hospital.
He called on the mother to contact police, attend a hospital or call an ambulance immediately, as police are concerned about her health.
