Police say 'more parties' are likely to be involved in Samantha Murphy's disappearance as telephone data provides a new lead in the three-week search for the missing Ballarat mother.
Telephone data has provided a new lead in the three-week search for the missing 51-year-old Ballarat East mother. Police are holding a press conference today at 10am AEDT where they are expected to provide updated details about the search.
Today, they will narrow-in on an area at Mount Clear, south of Ballarat CBD, as part of their investigation into the suspicious disappearance of Ms Murphy who did not return from a Sunday jog on February 4. With bushland on both sides of it, Mount Clear is adjacent to an area called Canadian Plantation, where Ms Murphy is thought to have been running when she went missing. The search, led by the Missing Persons squad, will involve detectives from the Victoria Police Crime Command as well as local police. Investigators are reviewing about 12,000 hours of CCTV footage and following up more than 500 separate pieces of information.She was last seen leaving her property on Eureka Street, just north of the Canadian Plantation, to go for a run about 7am in an area she regularly visited.Crime Command detective acting superintendent Mark Hatt said police suspected "more parties" were involved. "We are keeping an open mind, but believe the most likely scenario is that her disappearance involves one or more parties," he said. "Given the extensive and detailed search that has already been undertaken and the fact no sign of Samantha or her personal belongings has been located, we have ruled out any type of medical incident."I know that a lot of people, particularly those who live in the local Ballarat community, are extremely concerned about the fact we haven't yet located Samantha or who may be responsible for her disappearance.
