The child, who was visiting Australia from Japan with his family, was struck with the rock as the Kuranda Scenic Railway train neared its destination in Northern Queensland.
A five-year-old boy has been struck in the head with a rock thrown through the window of a tourist train in Cairns.
The boy was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries, and flown to Townsville Hospital on Sunday.Senior Constable Heidi Marek said the child's injuries were "quite significant at that time" but the transfer was precautionary and he was "doing OK". "Certainly, a horrific scene to happen to a five-year-old boy, so we've been working extremely hard trying to solve this over the weekend," she said.
