Police are asking the public to help identify the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that left a 90-year-old woman dead south of Nanaimo on Saturday.

Police are asking the public to help identify the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that left a 90-year-old woman dead south of Nanaimo on Saturday. Const. Gary O’Brien of Nanaimo RCMP said the incident occurred on Cedar Road near Bennie Road, near Quennell Lake. A passing motorist reported a woman lying on Cedar Road to police shortly before 9 p.m. Despite efforts from bystanders and emergency responders, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cedar Road was closed for several hours as officers investigated. Based on the evidence gathered, the woman’s death is being investigated as a hit-and-run, O’Brien said. Police are asking motorists who were in the area between 8 and 8:45 p.m. on Saturday to check their dash-cam footage.
