Three men have been arrested after authorities seized $675 million worth of methylamphetamine, also known as "ice", destined for Australian streets.
The illicit drugs were found in a number of sea cargo containers, which arrived into Port Botany in Sydney last month.The "ice" has an estimated potential street value of more than $675 million.NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the ice was concealed in marble stone tiles among 24 shipping containers.Police discovered 748kg of methylamphetamine in a number of sea cargo containers in Sydney.
"We suspect the impact of this seizure will be felt across Sydney and NSW in the coming months," Webb said.Following the "tremendous haul", three men, were arrested and charged yesterday.Three men have been arrested and will appear in court today after the "ice" seizure. Two Victorian men - aged 34 and 40 - were also stopped in a vehicle at Sydney Olympic Park.The ice was concealed in marble titles in shipping containers originating from the United Arab Emirates.He refused to rule out further arrests.Watson said a "huge operation" unfolded following the seizure on July 27, culminating in 11 Commonwealth search warrants and involving more than 100 officers., Former Commissioner of NSW Police Mike Fuller praised the work of officers.
"Ice is a particularly destructive drug in the community. Heroin was terrible in the '90s, but this is worse," he said.So well done to NSW Police...this will have significant impact on supply and demand".
