Police shot and killed a man Saturday after receiving a report that someone was shooting a gun into the air in Springville. Later, officers said they weren't able to find any evidence that a gun was actually being fired before they arrived.
Authorities responded to a tipster’s call about a man shooting a gun into the air outside the Springville Walmart, located at 660 S. 1750 West.
After police arrived at the scene, they said a man began following a patrol car in his own vehicle before crashing into the back of the police car. When the officer got out of his vehicle, police said the other man threatened the officer with a knife. That officer fired at least one shot at the man, and police said the man died at the scene. Police didn’t specify how many times the officer shot at the man or how many times the man was hit.Later, officers were unable to find any evidence that a gun was actually being fired before they arrived, police said.Saturday’s shooting was the seventh police shooting in Utah so far this year.
