Marie Woodward and Marcus Thompson have been jailed
Drug dealers were stopped by cops on the M62 - before a kilo of cocaine and almost £35,000 was found. The couriers were on a five-hour, 260-mile round trip to Durham to pick up the drugs.
When the car was pulled over, beside Thompson was a rucksack. He claimed it contained clothes but a search uncovered nearly £35,000 in cash, prosecutor Benjamin Whittingham told Manchester Crown Court. One message read: "We said 2-250 a job so you owe me for yesterday and then whatever for today." Woodward wrote in another message: "I've had to go chemist when I got to Wigan then Manchester I'm saying way to much in my texts if police ever take my phone I'm done for."
When officers raided Woodward's home, they found medication including methadone in drawers beside her bed, as well as two Samsung mobile phones and a tin containing sim cards. A man in the property told police 'it's all hers, that'. 'You were caught red-handed' Thompson had eight previous sets of convictions for 14 offences - including drug crimes - although the last time he was in court was in 2013. Woodward had four sets of previous convictions for nine offences, mostly for dishonesty, said Mr Whittingham, who argued the pair played a 'significant role' in the operation.
Woodward had lost her father while awaiting sentence which had filled her 'with regret and sorrow', said Mr Beevers, who added she was supported by her daughter and mother who were watching from the public gallery.
