NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has called for Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display to be cancelled — a stance echoed by a petition which has accrued more than 270,000 signatures.
“If regional areas have had fireworks banned, then let’s not have two classes of citizens,” he said on Monday.
Mr Barilaro's stance breaks ranks with Premier Gladys Berejiklian, who said the display should go ahead if experts say its safe, and Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who said it should go ahead as planned. Image: Getty
