London's Ultra Low Emission Zone now extends to the capital's outer boroughs - despite vocal opposition from residents and councils; campaigners have criticised government plans to relax environmental rules in a bid to boost housebuilding.
Sunak defends green credentials as government scraps nutrient neutrality rules
The prime minister also hit out at London mayor Sadiq Khan whose expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone - more commonly known as ULEZ - has gone into effect today. Speaking on a visit to a new-build housing estate near Norwich, Rishi Sunak told broadcasters:"I’m grateful to Nadine for her service both as an MP and a minister."
They were introduced in 2017 when the UK was still a member of the European Union, but ministers say they are"deficient" and blocking over 100,000 new homes. "These changes will provide a multi-billion pound boost for the UK economy and see us build more than 100,000 new homes."
