MAPPED: People warned not to go in the water because of SEWAGE at these beaches near Greater Manchester
Brits have been warned not to go swimming at several beaches across the UK today. Heavy rain over the weekend has led to sewage outflows at various sites and pollution warnings have been issued for Blackpool and Cleveleys.
The Environment Agency has published an interactive map which reveals the latest updates on water quality at bathing locations. You can also search for your postcode to see which sites near you are safe for swimming - you can do this here. Swimmers have been warned to stay clear of several beaches near Greater Manchester today, July 17. It comes just days before schools break up for the summer holidays and families head to the seaside.Pollution risk warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency for Blackpool North, Central and South beaches, as well as Cleveleys further up the coast. This means people should not go into the water.
Another bathing location near Greater Manchester which has received a ‘poor’ quality rating is the Wharfe at Cromwheel, Illkley, where bathing is currently advised against. It’s a small shingle beach located on the River Wharfe at Illkley, close to the town centre. Swimmers are also warned to stay clear of Scarborough’s South Bay and Bridlingtons South Beach on the Yorkshire Coast. Both have been rated as poor and bathing is not advised at these sites.
