There are just three units in the boutique complex at 8 Notts Ave. It’s at least well above the $21m achieved for two adjoining penthouses sold off-the-plan to create one super apartment at Pacific Bondi Beach in 2013.
And it’s certainly higher than the $20.1m achieved at auction last March for 16/16 Notts Ave, Bondi Beach when former world champion yachtsman James Mayo sold to online gambling website founder Joshua Chan. Young has owned the three-bedroom penthouse since 2006, when he paid a then suburb record of $9m sold to him by Maskin.There are three bedrooms in the penthouse. In 2018, agents from another firm were quoting a $20m-plus guide when they were showing buyers through the penthouse in 2018 after Young bought a garden apartment in the Notts Ave triplex for $6.5m. Maskin picked up the listing for Young’s penthouse in late 2020, showing artist’s impressions of a council-approved architectural makeover along with a potential 200sqm roof terrace. There was talk of “one of Australia’s best actors” inspecting the penthouse at that time, though Maskin denied it was Chris Hemsworth. No wonder the penthouse had star appeal, with its approx 24m frontage to uninterrupted northerly ocean views. It also has a four-car garage. Maskin sold Young’s two-bedroom 99sqm garden apartment in the triplex for $10m last October to the Grundy family, which was the first apartment in the east to crack $100,000 per sq m.
