Last year £500,000 was earmarked for gates to help those areas which most need them
Sinn Féin has warned that a “poor response” to a public consultation on alley-gating in Belfast will harm those communities most in need of alley enclosure.
“I want to know if this has improved, and are there any streets with a low response rate, which could ultimately have an impact on them getting an alley gate. If that is the case, we need a list of them. “So I think it is important we review the consultation process. We need to look at what can be done to make it easier to respond. QR codes and smartphones are great for those who have them. And giving people a phone number to ring for a hard copy can put people off.”
Stormont has since replied to a request from Belfast City Council to match fund it on alley gates across the city with an unequivocal no.
