The pontiff complained of breathing difficulties in recent days but tested negative for Covid-19, the Vatican said

“Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,” a statement said.The pontiff, 86, was taken to hospital on Wednesday for what was described at the time as “previously scheduled” tests – though it later emerged a television interview set for Wednesday afternoon had been cancelled at the last moment.
