Luka Samanic’s solid performance for Utah in its 128-117 win over the Spurs on Wednesday night gave Gregg Popovich hope that the former Spur forward just might “figure it out” and gain a foothold in the NBA.

The Spurs drafted Samanic 19th overall in 2019 only to waive him at the end of training camp in 2021 after two disappointing seasons. “It doesn’t work for everybody their first trip someplace,” Popovich said. “Sometimes it’s the second or third team where the light bulb finally goes on and they figure it out. I think he’s one of those guys. He’s a great kid, and I’d love to have him figure it out.”
“When you’re a first-round pick and people build you up, there are certain expectations of who you are going to be as a player,” Hardy said. “You may think things are going to be easier than they’re going to be, and you deserve certain things you maybe haven’t earned yet. I think getting cut and going to the G League, it does give you a new perspective on how thin the line can be from being in the NBA or out.
