There will be no commercial rafting on a popular California section of the Truckee River near Lake Tahoe in coming months, and the reason may surprise you.

After this winter, water is abundant in California, but this section of the Truckee is running low without the releases at the dam.— that rent rafts for leisure floats down the upper section of the river right below the dam; both recently announced that they’re closed for the season and will not be taking summer reservations.

Sydney Courcier, a manager with Truckee River Rafting, elaborated in a phone call with SFGATE. “It’s super complicated,” she said. “We say we’re closed because there’s too much water in the area, but really in our section there won’t be enough to raft.”
