The Port of Baltimore has completely reopened after a nearly three month clean-up operation following the collapse of a major bridge.
The port of Baltimore has finally reopened 11 weeks after the iconic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed into the Patapsco River when it was struck by a freight container.
Six construction workers were tragically killed when the bridge fell into the water below, while two crew members miraculously survived. Governor of Maryland Wes Moore was beaming with pride as he announced on Wednesday local time, the channel had been fully cleared. President Joe Biden issued a statement on the port reopening as he praised the work of all involved in clearing the channel.
"The partnership between federal, state, and local governments, labor leaders like the longshoremen who keep this hub running, and the business community shows what we can get done when we work together. Some commercial traffic has been able to pass through in recent weeks with some cruise ships and large container ships already having moved through the channel.
