The Porter County Board of Health voted unanimously Tuesday evening to resubmit its list of five Republican candidates to the Porter County Board of Commissioners for yet another opening on its six-member board after the resignation of neurosurgeon Ron Michael.
The next commissioners meeting is Tuesday morning and it remains to be seen if that body will pull from the suggested list when making its next appointment as it did not do so the last time. That list was originally submitted after the Sept. 18 special Board of Health meeting and before the Sept. 25 appointment of physician Christopher Osan to replace ousted member Jessica Jepsen.
“I don’t have data on how many pregnant women were vaccinated in Porter County,” Stamp said, but said the vaccine’s availability did not appear to have increased fetal deaths. “Will masks be mandated in the future?” was the next question. “This is not part of our job to mandate the use of masks at this point,” Stamp replied. During the public comment portion of the meeting, Stamp was challenged that the health department had indeed been enforcing mask mandates at area businesses.
