The Brisbane band say they are flattered to be offered to perform at the Gabba final, but refuse the invitation to come out of retirement to play the event, suggesting a host of Queensland artists to take their place.

Powderfinger have refused an offer from the AFL to come out of retirement to play the grand final at the Gabba in October.But the band said via Twitter they would not perform at the eventFollowing days of speculation that the Queensland rock legends would play

, the band confirmed on Twitter that promoter Michael Gudinski and the AFL board had approached them to perform at the event.Despite saying they were flattered by the proposal, the band said they would not be playing. "A very generous and enticing proposal made by Mr Gudinski and the AFL board but it is not to be this time folks," the post read.The band went on to say they would rather see active Queensland artists perform at the event, putting forward a suggested list of artists to be considered, including: Amy Shark, Ball Park Music, Busby Marou, Cub Sport, Dune Rats, The Chats, Nat Dunn, Thelma Plum, Violent Soho and Waax.
