Police say an object found washed up on Main Beach is a 'practice' torpedo that went missing during a recent Defence training drill off the Queensland Coast.
Emergency services were called to Main Beach around 5:45am after members of the public spotted a suspicious device .
Australian Defence Force specialists have examined and seized the device, which was discovered by locals at Main Beach this morning. Queensland Police Service Acting Inspector Leon Wort confirmed the device found on a Gold Coast beach was an "inert practice torpedo" used during an ADF drill off the coast in recent months.The beach has now reopened.Acting Inspector Wort said the object was not the first military device to wash up on the Gold Coast.
