Treasurer Matt Kean cast doubt over the Warragamba Dam wall raising project when he revealed it wasn’t in the government’s four-year infrastructure plan
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has been forced to recommit to a $2 billion plan to raise the Warragamba Dam wall in the next term of government, after Treasurer Matt Kean cast doubt over the project in a debate where he revealed it wasn’t part of the government’s infrastructure plan.
Two hours later, Mr Perrottet rushed to assure voters that the high profile project would commence in the next term and that his government had set aside cash to finance it.“As I’ve said very clearly, we have a strong infrastructure pipeline, we’ve committed to raising the Warragamba Dam wall,” he said.“We’ve committed to raising the Warragamba Dam wall.”
The state government wants help to fund the wall, but Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is yet to say whether the federal government will stump up for the project. On Wednesday afternoon, a government source indicated that the Perrottet government believed the proposal for the project would be handed to the federal government in mid-2024 in a bid to receive a commitment for funding.
Under intense questioning from Mr Mookhey over the cost of the Coalition’s privatisation agenda, Mr Kean refused to confirm Labor’s calculation that the government had sold off $92 billion worth of assets during its 12-year tenure in government.
