NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is resisting calls to mandate face masks on public transport, insisting as many as 60 per cent of people are already wearing them | Rabe9 AlexSmithSMH

Asked on Monday whether that figure had changed, a Transport for NSW spokeswoman said there had been an increase in recent weeks, but did not disclose the number.

Ms Berejiklian and NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant have ramped up their messaging on face masks in recent weeks, insisting that anyone who caught public transport or attended crowded shops should be wearing them. “Memory and recall can be difficult ... so we do want to look at the CCTV footage, we’re keen to learn any new information, but at this moment we’re considering that transmission may have occurred on the bus but we are exploring other routes,” she said.
