NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has raised the likelihood of the government bowing to union calls to modify the state’s new intercity trains at the centre of a long-running industrial dispute
– is sitting in storage on the NSW Central Coast, which the government has estimated is costing taxpayers $30 million a month.
Government sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said while some ministers were open to modifications to placate the unions, Treasurer Matt Kean and others have so far been reluctant to make the changes, which they see as wasteful and unnecessary.The Rail Tram and Bus Union postponed by a day a delegates’ meeting planned for Tuesday to discuss the government’s latest offer for a new enterprise agreement, and decide whether to continue the planned escalation in industrial action.
“If the premier is serious about trying to resolve the situation then please contact us. We’re more than happy to try and find a resolution to the dispute,” he said.
