Preservationists in San Jose are frustrated. They say two historic buildings on West St. John are about to be demolished to build a temporary parking lot. But city officials say the move may be necessary to satisfy their contractual obligations with the nearby SAP Center.
The collapsed stretch of I-95 is reopening sooner than expected, as Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll officially reopen the highway at noon Friday. The plan for the site is to build a temporary parking lot to serve the SAP Center.
The Preservation Action Council put the properties on their Endangered 8 List of the most at risk in the city. "This is just preserving the existing parking in the area within the distance of the SAP Center that we're required to provide," says Colin Heyne of the San Jose Department ofThe boxing venue is currently an auto repair shop, but preservations could picture a beer garden here or an event space. "What for...losing history for that," she wonders.
