abc.net.au/news/kings-beach-elderly-man-fraud-extradition-/101793246Queensland police are seeking to extradite a man from New South Wales for his alleged involvement in an "elaborate scam" that allegedly defrauded an elderly Sunshine Coast man out of $30,000.
The 22-year-old foreign national was arrested in Parramatta this morning on a Queensland arrest warrant, for the offence allegedly committed at Kings Beach in January 2020. Sunshine Coast detective Russell Connor said police would allege a 92-year-old man was "robbed" by three men pretending to be from his bank."We will be alleging the elderly gentleman was firstly contacted by phone, advising him his accounts had been hacked and compromised, before three men drove from Sydney to his Sunshine Coast home," Senior Constable Connor said.
He said police would allege they convinced him to hand over bank cards and account details before emptying out his accounts. Police said the three men allegedly obtained about $30,000 in cash and property from various ATMs and retail outlets across the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast before returning to New South Wales the next day.
