The Swans are fuming, noting Essendon pledged to play with an “edge” before Saturday night’s match when big man Peter Wright collected Harry Cunningham high in a marking contest.
Sydney Swans provocateur Tom Papley told Essendon forward Peter Wright to expect “a nice holiday” for crashing into the head of opponent Harry Cunningham, and described the Bombers’ physicality during the Swans’ 30-point victory on Saturday night as a facade.
“They’re trying to get after us, it’s all off the ball. We’re just worried about the ball, we’ll keep being hard in the contest and get the job done.” Scott spoke earlier in the week about wanting his side to play with an “Essendon edge”. He defended Wright on Saturday night.“I’m not going to talk about the incident, but the only thing I can say is Peter Wright is a well-known ball player – always has been, since he was a kid.
