Eels star Mitchell Moses given police escort to match after receiving death threat
Mitchell Moses had to be escorted in and out of CommBank Stadium by a police riot squad and security team on Friday night after the Parramatta halfback received a death threat earlier in the week.has been told that the threat was made during the week to a member of Moses’ family. It was then relayed to the halfback and later reported to the NRL.
The NRL subsequently advised the police, who took the matter very seriously and organised an escort to and from the game against the Warriors on Friday night. Moses was secretly ushered in and out of the venue via a tunnel underneath the ground. Venue officials were urged to heighten security, who scanned the crowd throughout the game to make sure there was no danger to the 27-year-old while he was on the field.“I think it was worse because [the] contact was to my family. When people start to get into your family it’s harder. Couple of text messages and couple of phone calls.“It was non stop. It didn’t come through to me. It came to my family.
As a result of the threats made against Moses, fans attending the Eels-Warriors match were subjected to searches by hand-held metal detectors. The normal protocol at NRL matches is just for bags to be searched by security staff.
