“The operation was alright but then when it comes back a second time and chemo is involved, yeah, it’s a different game,” he said.“Nothing you could ever expect, you think you’re prepared going into it but yeah, it was pretty tough times, not going to lie. But with the support I had from my wife, kids, family, to the club, yeah we got through and we’re here today.”
“Just to, I suppose, survive the side effects that come with it. [They] were brutal as a lot of people know out there but, yeah, I suppose I made it, so feel stronger for it.”Interim Kangaroos coach Leigh Adams weighed up whether to bring Cunnington straight back into seniors, but decided to take a cautious approach and ease him back into playing again.
Cunnington said having his family in the crowd was important, especially as they had been with him throughout his recovery journey.
