A new bill coming to parliament next week seeks to crack down on corporations behaving badly.

A bill coming to parliament next week could see supermarkets and other corporations fined up to $50 million if they are found to be price gouging customers.

The bill, based off similar laws in the European Union, would allow the ACCC to apply for a court order if a corporation had been found to illegally price gouge. The ACCC would also be able to force corporations to lower product prices."Australians are being smashed by rising costs for essentials like rent, food and energy, while corporations are raking in massive profits," Greens economic justice spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said.

"The choice is clear: side with the big corporations who are profiting from people's pain, or side with the Australians who are struggling to get by.": Stay across all the latest in breaking news, celebrity and sport via our WhatsApp channel.
