Senator Jacinta Price has said Labor is using a Voice to Parliament to “handball” away responsibility for difficult indigenous issues.

The Labor Government has put the scrapping of the controversial welfare management system on top of its list of legislative priorities this year.

She said elected representatives needed to do a “better job to engage” with constituents and heed the advice from locals, accusing the Social Services Minister of ignoring the message from the community.“The more I think about this idea of a Voice, the more I think that it’s the government’s opportunity to handball the difficult indigenous issues to say: ‘We’ll put it to the responsibility of the Voice’,” she said.
