Trying to wrest control of Wagner Group’s shadow army, the Russian president wants all mercenaries to “strictly follow the orders of commanders and superiors”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Wagner mercenaries to swear an oath of allegiance to him two days after their leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was likely killed in a plane crash widely blamed on the Kremlin.
Western intelligence agencies have accused Putin of involvement, likely by ordering the planting of a bomb on the plane. But despite the offer to exact revenge on the Kremlin, there is no evidence that Wagner mercenaries have started to join the pro-Ukraine corps. In Novosibirsk, Siberia, a masked Wagner fighter in full combat uniform knelt down at a memorial and sobbed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to control fighters loyal to Yevgeny Prigozhin who was likely killed this week.also reported that there were already 15 memorials to Prigozhin around Russia highlighting his high-profile and support. When Wagner soldiers withdrew from Rostov, the city in southern Russia they captured for 48 hours during their rebellion, ordinary Russians cheered them and shook their hands.
